It is narrated from Husayn Ibn Ali that:
“WHEN YOU SEE A GREAT FIRE FROM THE EAST IN THE SKY ILLUMINATE THE NIGHT,  THAT MOMENT IS THE TIME OF THE COMING OF HAZRAT MAHDI (AS).”

This great explosion and subsequent fire that this hadith of our Prophet (saas) is referring to is the explosion of the heavily laden petrol tanker the Independenta off the Kadıkoy coast in 1979, or 1400 according to the Islamic calendar. Our Prophet (saas) openly states that the time of this great event that took place in Istanbul is that of the coming of Hazrat Mahdi (as) to Istanbul in the words; “... THAT MOMENT IS THE TIME OF THE COMING OF HAZRAT MAHDI (AS)” In addition, Said Nursi, the great restorer of the faith of the last 1000 years, also says in his collection that Hazrat Mahdi (as) will appear in the year 1400 (AD 1979);
