Turkey sets an example not only for the Arab world but also for the West Mr. Ahmet Altan, the prominent columnist ofTaraf daily in Turkey commented; “Today every foreign journalist visiting our offices asks us the same question; ‘Will Turkey become a role model for the countries experiencing the Arab Spring?’ In my opinion, Turkey can not only become a role model for the Arab countries but also for the West. Let’s look at our neighbor Greece… In comparison to them, Turkey is almost like a heaven. How is this possible?Despite our ages-long admiration for the Western countries and the wealth of the Arab countries, how have we become a country envied by the Arabian, Greek, Spanish, Portuguese and Hungarian people who go through some troubles today? I guess Rodin, the sculptor, has the answer in his famous phrase; “I removed the excessive part of the stone so the statue emerged.”Now Turkey is removing the excessive part of the stone. |
