Then it would mean disaster, that would mean persecution. To be reasonable, compassionate, merciful and gentle is a must.

Affection and compassion is an important emotion given us by Allah. Disbelief regards affection and compassion as , forgiveness is illogical. Helping others is illogical. Conscience is something that costs them time and money. Their logic questions why they should give away time and money. Islam is built on conscience. But disbelief is built on reason and cold logic.
