A believer only weeps out of joy and happiness. He would never cry out of grief.

All the songs are about crying because faithfulness or fidelity is lost. What does religion ensure? It ensures fidelity, faithfulness and patience.

Mourning is unlawful according to religion, it is an ancient pagan custom. As the ancient Sumerians, ancient Egyptians, Persians, Hittites did not believe in the afterlife, in martyrdom, they considered death as a disaster. They would cry as to rebel against God. Us Muslims regard martyrdom as [achieving] an honorable rank.

Some people use crying as their weapon when things contradict their interests. This is a devilish method of fussing in order to arouse pity for themselves, in order to acquire something, in order to object to something, to frustrate the other party. A Muslim cries for the love of God. They do not cry to bother or frustrate others, as this is indecent and atrocious.

Crying is not acceptable for us. We did not cry in Çanakkale. We did not cry in Dumlupınar. We did not cry in Malazgirt. Why would we cry? As a nation who desires martyrdom, as a nation who regards martyrdom as an honor, why would we cry for martyrs?

Let us please put aside the habit of crying at the funerals of martyrs. It is not in compliance with the Qur'an, it is not in compliance with our customs; there is no such habit in the morality of Islam. That is a custom observed since the ancient Sumerians. It is not appropriate to cry after those who have gone to Heaven.
