Many animals are able to imitate the color their surroundings thanks to their camouflage skills. But the octopus conceals itself from predators by changing both color and form. The octopus’ body has tens of thousands of sacs known as “chromatophores.” These are under the control of a complex muscular network and contain pigments. By expanding or contracting the sacs the octopus is able to match itself to any background design or color. Meanwhile, other muscles alter the octopus’ skin tissue. By combining these two methods, the octopus is able to camouflage itself to perfection. The octopus is not an animal possessed of reason that can do all this in a conscious manner. But since it behaves under the inspiration of Allah, the result is this perfect defense technique.
