As they draw nearer to Hell, they start acting abnormally all the time because of the severity of their humiliation. God brings them to a point of no return. Had their actions been lesser, the response they would get in Hell would have been lesser as well, that is why God gives them possessions, means and time. They use all the means and time they have in struggling against Muslims. Their load of sins and their closeness to hell thus increases.
