The period of the system of Mahdi is a long one. The reason this period will be as long as 40 years is so that it possesses a great spiritual merit. Otherwise, God could establish the reign of Islam in one year if He wished so. However, the believers would earn one year’s worth of spiritual merit in that case. God extended the period of the system of Mahdi to 40 years so that it has great spiritual merit. Quote

The more hardships suffered, the more the good deeds acquired would be. The difficulties Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) encounters are countless. Every single hardship encountered is a step ahead. When Islam prevails, one who attains a million good deeds would only attain one good deed. Someone who previously attained a million good deeds with an act, with a behavior, would only attain –let us say- five good deeds with that act when Islam prevails in the whole world. After that, because no meaning is left in life and because the trial has come to an end, the Last Day comes swiftly. Even if you strive hard, you can only acquire very few good deeds. It has to be tough, it has to be dangerous, there have to be "assaulters", there have to be those who curse, there have to be those who shout out and scream; the treacherous and back stabbers should run rampant. There should be utmost dissension and disorder; then and only then good deeds will rain down upon you. Quote

Prophets are very sensitive. There is a spiritual sensitivity in Mahdis as well. They are all very sensitive. They see colors better, they hear voices better, they are more prone to sadness, they are more prone to worry. That is why the merits they acquire are even more. Quote
