The Way Out of Social Degeneration Worldwide – Podcast

Since 2018, the economic crises, wars, cultural conflicts, and social polarizations experienced both in Türkiye and across the world—along with natural disasters and catastrophes—have affected people more deeply than ever before. Under the psychological burden created by uncertainty in living conditions, economic pressure, and social insecurity, people have become more intolerant and more lonely. Mutual communication has weakened. People have begun to develop a more defensive attitude toward one another. The erosion of love and respect has brought about a deep deterioration felt at every layer of the social structure, and it has now become inevitable to rebuild human bonds in order to stop this course.

In societies where mutual love is not firmly established, a strong structure of unity and solidarity cannot emerge. People cannot gather around a common goal. Social harmony weakens. The relationship of trust between individuals gradually deteriorates. In such an environment, producing collective wisdom becomes impossible, and it becomes difficult for sound judgment to prevail in social matters. This lack of love not only paralyzes individual relationships but also directly paralyzes the physical spheres of society. A tremendous stagnation appears in areas such as economy, science, art, and culture. People hesitate to take risks, productivity and innovation weaken. Scientific curiosity and the desire for research are pushed into the background; artistic production loses its courage, and the cultural world becomes shallow.

The sense of trust, which forms the foundation of economic growth, can never strengthen in environments where love and respect are absent. In places where love and compassion are weak, women cannot receive the value they deserve. Gender justice cannot be established, the voices of women are silenced, and their spheres of freedom become restricted. A fundamental indicator of a healthy society is that women can exist freely, safely, and within an atmosphere of respect.

Likewise, in societies where the culture of love has not taken root, democracy and freedom cannot truly exist. Real democracy becomes possible through the respect, courtesy, and empathy that people show toward one another. Freedom too can only be protected through love. Because a society that does not love cannot protect, and a society that cannot protect quickly loses its freedom. When love disappears, people become afraid to express their thoughts and choose exclusion instead of understanding one another. In societies where mutual love is not established, people cannot experience true love and true friendship. Because instead of love, competition prevails; instead of trust, suspicion; instead of loyalty, relationships based on self-interest. In such an environment, disloyalty and faithlessness spread. People become quickly offended with one another and easily abandon each other. Individuals begin to see one another as rivals, which disrupts social harmony.
When love and trust do not exist, solidarity gives way to hidden struggles. People become unable to rejoice in each other’s success both in social life and in professional life. In such a structure, people cannot be happy or cheerful. The natural rhythm of life is disrupted, and a general pessimism prevails in society. The most dangerous aspect of this deterioration is that people gradually become accustomed to it. Social coldness becomes normalized. Values such as love, respect, and compassion are seen as weakness. Empathy is perceived as an unnecessary luxury. As a result, everyone actually becomes more isolated. The number of individuals who feel completely alone even within crowds increases.

Love is the most essential quality of this world. At the very foundation of the creation of human beings and even of the universe lies love. Approaching all created beings with love is the only remedy that can solve all the problems on earth. Where love exists, there is joy, happiness, peace, healthy individuals, and healthy societies. Where love prevails, there is unity, abundance, trust, and security. Everyone sees one another as a friend and a brother and protects and looks after each other wholeheartedly. One wishes for others what one wishes for oneself. Just as one thinks of one’s own comfort, security, health, and happiness, one also thinks of the comfort, peace, and happiness of others, and tremendous peace and abundance arise all over the world.

Love is the most invisible yet the most powerful bond that connects individuals to one another. When this invisible bond develops, society gains the ability to exist together and unite around shared values. The true revival of societies occurs not through large changes imposed from the outside, but through this deep transformation that emerges from within.

When mutual love is re-established, anger in the world will diminish, trust will strengthen, and solidarity and understanding will increase. Polarizations will soften, and people will display a more constructive approach toward one another. Today, humanity’s greatest need, above all else, is a rebuilt mutual love.

People’s inability to tolerate one another, judging without listening, and seeing differences as threats have turned into an invisible destruction that exhausts the spirit of societies. The solution lies not in complex political projects, heavy economic plans, or sharp ideological changes, but in people once again approaching one another with love. The simplest yet most powerful path of transformation is for human beings to look upon one another with love and compassion.

As stated in the Qur’an, approaching one another with compassion is the only way for peace, brotherhood, and tranquility to flourish again on earth:

“A good action and a bad action are not the same. Repel the bad with something better and, if there is enmity between you and someone else, he will be like a bosom friend.”(Surah Fussilat, 34)

No matter whom you ask, everyone’s greatest longing is a peaceful world where conflicts and fights do not exist and where peace, trust, and solidarity prevail everywhere. All people eagerly await the day when love and brotherhood surround every corner, when everyone—whether acquainted or not—greets one another in the streets, and when everyone sees each other as a friend.
